Charger Choir – Varsity Choir – Music Industry 2
March 25th and 26th from 1:30-3:30pm
Thank you for your interest in our programs! If you are new to our Edison music programs and would like to be part of the advanced ensembles, you will need to audition. First, sign up for an audition slot here. Then, fill out this audition form. On the audition form, please select if you would like to audition in person or virtually. Live auditions will be held at Edison High School in room 301. Virtual auditions will be held at this Zoom link.
After you have filled out the paperwork, it is time to prepare for your audition! Here are the requirements for each program.
- Charger Choir – Please prepare 1 minute of a song of your choice. Please be prepared to sing with a backing track. There will also be a short sight reading assessment.
- Varsity Choir – Please prepare 1 minute of a pop, rock, or jazz piece. Please be prepared to sing with a backing track. There will also be a short sight reading assessment.
- Music Industry 2 – Please prepare 1 minute of a song of your choice on your primary instrument. If you are experienced on more than one instrument, you may prepare additional pieces to show off your skills. There will also be a short sight reading assessment to gauge your experience with chord charts and traditional notation.
What song should I choose for my audition?
Pick a song that you love and feel comfortable performing. The only program with a genre requirement is Varsity Choir which requires a contemporary piece for your audition.
What should I wear to my audition?
Business casual attire is requested. Make sure that you feel comfortable performing in whatever you choose to wear.
Do I need to bring my own instrument?
I recommend bringing your own instrument as you always play better on an instrument you are comfortable with. However, we will have instruments for you to use if necessary. We have a grand piano and drum set that will be sanitized between each audition.
What does the sight reading assessment entail?
You will be asked to read a short 4-8 measure exercise on your primary instrument in traditional notation. If you are auditioning for Music Industry 2, you will also be asked to read a chord chart.
If I don’t know how to read sheet music, can I still get accepted into the advanced classes?
The sight reading assessment helps me to figure out which class you will be most successful in so that you can have an accomplished, fulfilling year. Yes, you can still be accepted into the advanced classes without knowing how to read, however, the more skills you have, the more likely you are to be accepted.
What if I am not available on the audition dates?
If you are unable to make the audition dates, please email me directly at email@example.com. We will work out a makeup date for your audition.
What if I am new to my instrument and am not ready for the advanced classes?
That is not a problem! We have several classes at Edison to get you started. If you love to sing but would like to improve in your skills before auditioning for the advanced choirs, sign up for Chorus 1 or Musical Theater. If you are new to your instrument, want to learn a new instrument, or want to learn about music theory, then sign up for Music Industry 1.
